This fixes a bug where the network menu would remain present after a
second click on the network menu button. The bug was caused by the
click being handled _twice_, by two separate handlers. First it was
caught by the external click handler of the dropdown menu, which closed
the menu. Second, it was caught by the network button itself, which re-
opened the menu. This all happens quickly enough that to the user it
appears to stay open.
The external click handler of the menu now only fires if the menu is
open. Additionally, any click that is caught by the network menu is
stopped from propagating further, so that it can't trigger additional
click handlers.

Our automatic token detection was hard-coded to only work on our built-
in Infura Mainnet endpoint. It now works with custom Mainnet RPC
endpoints as well.
Relates to #6992
Ensures that `hideLoadingIndication` is always called in all actions that call `showLoadingIndication`. It's unclear how many of these actions were failing to hide the loading indication, because other actions superset `hideLoadingIndication`.
At the very least, `updateTransaction` was probably failing to hide the loading indication in the error case.
This PR also refactors a lot of actions to call `hideLoadingIndication` once in `finally` blocks as opposed to multiple times across `try` and `catch` blocks. We avoided making changes to functions using `Promise` methods, because `Promise.finally` is not supported by Waterfox, and it's not properly transpiled by Babel.
This update comes with a breaking change to the Approval controller. It
now requires a `defaultApprovalType` parameter.
I don't think we have any use for a default approval type, but I've
added a "NO_TYPE" one for now because it's a strict requirement. We
should consider making this parameter optional in the future, for cases
like this where it's not needed.
This update will hopefully address some caching issues we've been
seeing with our phishing configuration. See here for more details:

This PR introduces the new approval controller to the extension codebase. We use it for the permissions controller's pending approval functionality.
The approval controller sets us up for a new pattern of requesting and managing user confirmations in RPC methods. Along with the generic RPC method middleware, the approval controller will allow us to eliminate our message managers, and decouple various method handlers from our provider stack, making the implementations more portable between the extension and mobile.
The Firefox e2e tests now use the `.zip` file for testing the
extension. We've found this to produce more similar results to
production, compared to the old method of loading the unzipped
directory.
Passing in a `.zip` file to the Chrome driver didn't seem to work. I
didn't investigate this further to see if it was possible, but I'm not
sure it makes a difference on Chrome anyway.
From a behavioral standpoint this PR fixes the issue with tracking, and persisting, tokens that the user hides. Whether we can/should optimize this to prevent duplicates of the accountHiddenTokens and hiddenToken is a point of contention, but it acts similiarly to how we track tokens and accountTokens.
Also to note, for tokens under a custom network there is no way to distinguish two different custom network sets of hidden tokens, they are all under the `rpc` property, same as accountTokens.

The `waitUntilCalled` utility now has a timeout. It will now throw an
error if the stub is not called enough times, rather than blocking
forever.
The return type had to be changed to a function, so that we could throw
when the timeout is triggered. I tried returning an error that rejected
first, but if you don't handle the error synchronously Node.js will
consider it to be an unhandled Promise rejected (even if it _is_
handled later on).
I worked around this by resolving in the timeout case as well, so that
there is never a "deferred" Promise exception in the timeout case. The
returned function re-throws the error if it's given. That way there is
never any unhandled Promise rejection.

The metrics e2e test would fail if the segment events still weren't
dispatched when the page loaded. The Segment events are sent on a set
interval, so it isn't abnormal for them to lag behind the page load
itself. The `waitUntilCalled` utility has been used to wait until all
required events have been dispatched.
The `wait-until-called` module was converted to an ES5 module, so that
it could be used from an e2e test. The optional `callCount` parameter
has also been added, to allow waiting for more than one call.
The `segmentSpy` had to be converted to a `segmentStub`, to allow the
`waitUntilCalled` utility to be used.
The e2e test driver used to perform the initial navigation
automatically within the `buildWebDriver` function, so that that step
wouldn't need to be repeated at the beginning of each test. However
this prevented you from doing any setup in the test before the first
navigation.
The navigation has now been moved into each individual test. It should
be functionally equivalent, except now it's possible to control exactly
when the first navigation occurs.
A 1 second delay was also removed, as it didn't seem to be necessary
when testing this. It was initially added as an attempted fix to an
intermittent failure. It did not fix that failure.

The assertion ensuring that there were at least 3 metrics received
didn't end up being useful. If this assertion fails, it doesn't explain
what segment events _were_ received.
By removing this assertion and letting the later assertions catch this
case, we at least learn which of the three expected events were
present.
An e2e test has been added that uses the new mock Segment server to
verify that the three initial page metric events are sent correctly.
Using the mock Segment server requires a special build with this mock
Segment server hostname embedded, so a distinct job for building and
running this test was required. As such, it was left out of the
`run-all.sh` script.

Instead of patching `symbol-observable`, this ensures that all

A few inconsistencies in JSDoc formatting have been fixed throughout
the project. Many issues remain; these were just the few things that
were easy to fix with a regular expression.
The changes include:

Some of the unit tests for the incoming transaction controller included
a 1 second wait. The wait was to ensure that a state update did not
occur, as it happens asynchronously.
The tests work equally well using a `setTimeout` with a zero second
wait, because the asynchronous block update is guaranteed to have been
queued up by the time this timeout function is called. The timeout has
been reduced to `0` to speed up the tests.
Additionally, `undefined` has been added to the list of network names
used to construct the fake API responses. This is to ensure that the
API returns a valid response, so that the test fails when it should.
The incoming transactions controller now uses the `chainId` for the
current network instead of the `networkId`. This ensures that custom
RPC endpoints for the built-in supported networks do correctly receive
incoming transactions.
As part of this change, the incoming transactions controller will also
cease keeping track of the "last block fetched" for networks that are
not supported. This piece of state never really represented the last
block fetched, as _no_ blocks were fetched for any such networks. It
been removed.
Unit tests have been added to the incoming transactions controller to
ensure that block updates are correctly resulting in state updates when
incoming transactions are enabled. All other events that trigger state
updates are tested as well.
The tests were written to be minimally dependent upon implementation
details of the controller itself. `nock` was used to mock the API
response from Etherscan. Each event is triggered asynchronously by
`sinon`, as in production they are likely only triggered
asynchronously.

This PR includes a new `wait-until-called` module meant to help with
writing asynchronous tests. It allows you to wait until a stub has been
called.
The shared mocks used previously in the incoming transaction controller
tests have been replaced with functions that can generate a new mock
for each test.
We should avoid ever sharing mocks between tests. It's quite easy for
a mock to get accidentally mutated or not correctly "reset" for the
next test, leading to test inter-dependencies and misleading results.
In particular, it is unsafe to share a `sinon` fake (e.g. a spy or
stub) because they can't be fully reset between tests. Or at least it's
difficult to reset them property, and it can't be done while also
following their recommendations for preventing memory leaks.
The spy API and all related state can be reset with `resetHistory`,
which can be called between each test. However `sinon` also recommends
calling `restore` after each test, and this will cause `sinon` to drop
its internal reference to the fake object, meaning any subsequent call
to `resetHistory` would fail. This is intentional, as it's required to
prevent memory from building up during the test run, but it also means
that sharing `sinon` fakes is particularly difficult to do safely.
Instead we should never share mocks in the first place, which has other
benefits anyway.
This was discovered while writing tests for #9583. I mistakenly
believed that `sinon.restore()` would reset the spy state, and this was
responsible for many hours of debugging test failures.
This is a continuation of #9726, which did not fix the problem
described.
If the initial network when the extension is started is something other
than Mainnet, the swaps controller will never successfully retrieve
swap quotes. This is because `ethers` will continue to communicate
with whichever network the provider was initially on.
We tried fixing this by hard-coding the `chainId` to Mainnet's
`chainId` when constructing the Ethers provider, but this did not work.
I suspect this failed because the `provider` we pass to `ethers` is not
compliant with EIP 1193, as `ethers` doubtless expects it to be.
Instead the entire `ethers` provider is now reconstructed each time the
network changes. This mirrors the approach we take in some other
controllers.
If the initial network when the extension is started is something other
than Mainnet, the swaps controller will never successfully retrieve
swap quotes. This is because the `ethers` provider used by the swaps
controller doesn't allow network changes by default - it assumes that
the network remains the same as when the provider was initialized.
This was fixed by hard-coding Mainnet as the initial chain ID for this
`ethers` provider used by the swaps controller.
Some adjustments needed to be made to the `provider` stub to allow
setting `1` as the network ID and chain ID in unit tests.
The e2e test for the contract deposit action was unnecessarily reliant
upon timing. After initiating a deposit, it would grab the first
transaction in the transaction list and assume it was the deposit that
it had just initiated. If it looked prior to the unapproved transaction
being added to the list, it would grab the wrong transaction.
It now looks specifically for _unconfirmed_ transactions, meaning it
will block until the deposit transaction is rendered.

The change to the way that `punycode` is imported is to address the fact that
third-party module is hidden by the built-in. This is a silly hack but it works.
`@metamask/eslint-config` has been updated to v4.1.0. This update
requires that we update `eslint` to v7 as well, which in turn requires
updating most `eslint`-related packages.
Most notably, `babel-eslint` was replaced with `@babel/eslint-parser`,
and `babel-eslint-plugin` was replaced by `@babel/eslint-plugin`. This
required renaming all the `babel/*` rules to `@babel/*`.
Most new or updated rules that resulted in lint errors have been
temporarily disabled. They will be fixed and re-enabled in subsequent

When the `chainId` for a custom RPC endpoint is edited, we now migrate
the corresponding address book entries to ensure they are not orphaned.
The address book entries are grouped by the `metamask.network` state,
which unfortunately was sometimes the `chainId`, and sometimes the
`networkId`. It was always the `networkId` for built-in Infura
networks, but for custom RPC endpoints it would be set to the user-set
`chainId` field, with a fallback to the `networkId` of the network.
A recent change will force users to enter valid `chainId`s on all
custom networks, which will be normalized to be hex-prefixed. As a
result, address book contacts will now be keyed by a different string.
The contact entries are now migrated when this edit takes place.
There are some edge cases where two separate entries share the same set
of contacts. For example, if two entries have the same `chainId`, or if
they had the same `networkId` and had no `chainId` set. When the
`chainId` is edited in such cases, the contacts are duplicated on both
networks. This is the best we can do, as we don't have any way to know
which network the contacts _should_ be on.
The `typed-message-manager` unit tests have also been updated as part
of this commit because the addition of `sinon.restore()` to the
preferences controller tests ended up clearing a test object in-between
individual tests in that file. The test object is now re-constructed
before each individual test.

JSON files are now sorted by key with `prettier`, using the plugin
`prettier-plugin-sort-json`. This does not affect `package.json`
because `prettier` uses a special parser for that file, as it has
a more restrictive format than JSON.
Instead of using `eslint-plugin-json` for linting JSON files,
`prettier` is now used. `prettier` is capable of detecting and
correcting more problems than `eslint-plugin-json` can, such as
indentation.
All JSON files have been run through `prettier`. The changes are all
superficial.

This change fixes the `_validateERC20AssetParams` tests, ensuring that the given
options are all valid except those that are being tested. Previously the `symbol`
property was invalid _in addition to_ the `decimals` property.
This one gets a bit more complicated because the styles were interwoven and needed to be untangled to be moved. Essentially, though, the goal is to put the styles where they make the most sense and colocate them with their components.
This migration had referred to the non-existent
`TransactionsController` instead of `TransactionController`, so it
effectively did nothing. Now it should work.
This migration hasn't been included in any release yet, so we can fix
it in-place instead of adding an additional corrected migration.
The migration comment has also been updated, as it was inaccurate.
The remaining integration tests are all covered by e2e tests, so
they're no longer needed.
All associated scripts, fixtures, and dependencies have also been
removed.
This tests the `personal_sign` method using the test dapp. This test
reflects part of the `confirm-sig-requests` integration test, which
tests the confirmation of a `personal_sign` signature request.
A `data-testid` prop was added to the 'Sign' button on the signature
request confirmation page, to make it easier to select the 'Sign'
button reliably.
This updated test dapp has a new `personal_sign` button. It also fixes
the `Encrypt` button, which was broken in `v3.0.0`.
The `signature-request` e2e test needed to be updated to find the
'Sign' button by id rather than by text, since there are now two
buttons with the text 'Sign'.
The `withFixtures` helper function now has the option of starting the
test dapp as well. It will wait to ensure it has started up correctly,
and it'll shut it down when the test ends.
This test mirrors the `localization` integration test. It only tests
the display of fiat currency on the home page, and it only tests one
currency (`php`).
Both the primary and secondary balance components on `EthOverview` now
have `data-testid` props, so that they can be more easily referenced in
e2e tests.
This required the addition of a `data-testid` prop to the component
`UserPreferencedCurrencyDisplay`, which is passed through to the
underlying `CurrencyDisplay` component.
The e2e test helper function `withFixtures` now includes verbose
reporting on failure. Whenever a test fails, debugging information will
be saved to disk, just as with the other e2e test modules.
e2e test that use the `withFixtures` helper now check for console
errors after each successful test. If any errors are found, the test
fails.
It's currently enabled for Chrome only, because the Firefox driver
throws an error when you attempt to get the browser logs. Not sure why
exactly, but it's a long-standing problem.
The webdriver method `verboseReportOnFailure` had previously taken a
single parameter, `test`, which was an object representing the current
Mocha test. However, only one property was used (`title`).
Instead the `title` is now passed through directly. This was done to
make this function easier to use outside of a Mocha context.
It seems that this blocklist checker never worked correctly. Ever since
the initial commit, it was comparing the Number `1` to the `networkId`,
which is a string. Additionally, even if it did throw, the transaction
continued unhindered. The user could still approve it, and there was no
indication shown to the user that anything went wrong. Also some of the
blocklist entries were incorrectly mixed-case, and were never hit.
We can remove this for now, and re-add it later on after we rewrite the
transaction controller.
The `metamaskNetworkId` property in the `txMeta` for incoming
transactions was incorrectly set as a Number instead of a String. This
change was made accidentally as part of #8627.
As a result incoming transactions were being excluded from the
transaction list, as they didn't have a matching network ID.
`metamaskNetworkId` is now set to a string, and a migration has been
added to ensure `metamaskNetworkId` is converted to a string for any
incoming transactions in state.
The 'Expand view' button in the 'Account Options' menu was still being
shown on the fullscreen UI. This button is not useful in fullscreen, as
all it does is open the fullscreen UI. It is now hidden on the
fullscreen UI.
Imported accounts can be removed, but the permissions controller is not
informed when this happens. Permissions are now removed as part of the
account removal process.
Additionally, the `getPermittedIdentitiesForCurrentTab` selector now
filters out any non-existent accounts, in case a render occurs in the
middle of an account removal.
This was resulting in a render crash upon opening the popup on a site
that was connected to the removed account.
'Activity' is a better name for this tab because it contains more than
just transactions. Signature requests are also included, and more non-
transaction activity may be included in the future.
The `TokenRatesController` was accidentally broken in #8744, when the
logic for starting and stopping polling was moved from the `isActive`
property to start/stop functions.
A reference to the now-obsolete `isActive` property was accidentally
left behind, resulting in no exchange rate updates.
The entry for imported accounts in the account menu looked wrong with
the new connected site icon - there was no padding between the site
icon and the 'imported' label. The entry was pretty crowded with these
three symbols as well (the third being the 'x' used to remove the
account).
The site icon has been made the right-most icon, so that it lines up
with the site icons shown for other accounts, and spacing has been
added between the site icon and the 'imported' label.
The 'x' used to remove accounts has been removed. Accounts can still be
removed from the 'Account Options' menu on the Home screen. This seemed
like the wrong place for this button to exist, as it's the only action
that can be taken from that menu aside from navigation.
* refactor asset items to use list-item
Refactors the asset-list-item and token-cell to rely on the list-item
component for UI. Little changes were needed to the list-item code
to make this work! The result should be lots of eliminated code

The "the transaction has the expected gas price" test was assuming the
fifth element with the `transaction-breakdown__value` class was the
element with the gas price. In practice that was sometimes not the
case, because some transaction detail fields would not be present, or
would appear after the first render.
The field is now looked up with a test id, ensuring it always finds the
correct field.
The e2e test for the "Hide token" functionality was incorrectly
clicking "Cancel" on the "Hide token" modal, thus not actually testing
that that token was hidden at all.
The "Confirm" button is now selected using a test id, to ensure the
wrong button isn't selected.
A new page has been created for viewing assets. This replaces the old
`selectedToken` state, which previously would augment the home page
to show token-specific information.
The new asset page shows the standard token overview as seen previously
on the home page, plus a history filtered to show just transactions
relevant to that token.
The actions that were available in the old token list menu have been
moved to a "Token Options" menu that mirrors the "Account Options"
menu.
The `selectedTokenAddress` state has been removed, as it is no longer
being used for anything.
`getMetaMetricState` has been renamed to `getBackgroundMetaMetricState`
because its sole purpose is extracting data from the background state
to send metrics from the background. It's not really a selector, but
it was convenient for it to use the same selectors the UI uses to
extract background data, so I left it there for now.
A new Redux store has been added to track state related to browser history.
The most recent "overview" page (i.e. the home page or the asset page) is
currently being tracked, so that actions taken from the asset page can return
the user back to the asset page when the action has finished.
The fullscreen UI now shows roughly the same design as the popup UI.
A few additional changes depicted in the new fullscreen designs will
be implemented in subsequent PRs (e.g. the inline buttons on assets)
This was done now to make asset pages easier to implement. Implementing
asset pages solely for the popup UI would have been complicated by the
fact that we use viewport size to switch between the two layouts, so we
would have had to re-route upon resizing the window.
The `AccountDetailsDropdown` component has been rewritten to use the
new `Menu` component, and to follow the latest designs.
This should be functionally equivalent. A couple of the icons have
changed, but that's about it.
Support for a subtitle was added to `MenuItem` to support the `origin`
subtitle used for the explorer link for custom RPC endpoints.
A few adjustments were required to `test/helper.js` to accommodate
the use of `Menu` from a JSDOM context (this is the first time it's
been used in a unit test). A `popover-content` element was added to the
fake DOM, and another global was added that `react-popper` used
internally.
An additional driver method (`clickPoint`) was added to the e2e driver
to allow clicking the background behind the menu to dismiss it. This
wasn't possible using the `clickElement` method, because that method
would refuse to click an obscured element. The only non-obscured
element to click was the menu backdrop, and that didn't work either
because the center was obscured by the menu (Selenium clicks the center
of whichever element is targeted).
The `TransactionViewBalance` component has been split into three
separate components. This was done primarily to make the asset page
easier to implement. Also the name `TransactionViewBalance` didn't
describe this component very well anymore.
Instead of the Ethereum and token-specific logic being in the same
component, the two cases were split into the `EthOverview` and
`TokenOverview` components respectively. They both use the
`WalletOverview` component, which has the structure shared by both
cases.

Note that the migrations still use CommonJS require, so the default export as
an object is quite ergonomic (& I don't want to touch the migrations).
What
- modify `ui/app/helpers/utils/transactions.util.js` and
`ui/lib/account-link.js` to strip trailing slashes
if they are present.
- added relevant tests not just for the new scenario,
but also the general scenarios for these functions,
as there previously was no test coverage for these
two functions.
Why
- Current behaviour, when user enters a block explorer URL
when configuring a custom RPC, and that block explorer URL
contains a trailing `/`.
- e.g. `https://block.explorer/`
- this results in a double-slash (`//`) in the transaction
and account URLs generated by MetaMask.
- e.g. `https://block.explorer/tx/0xabcd...`,
`https://block.explorer/account/0xabcd...`
- This needs to be handled using a router redirect
on the server of the block explorer,
and this changes would avoid that requirement.
All asset list items now use the same component (`AssetListItem`).
Previously the tokens and the Ethereum balance were totally separate
components, despite being styled similarly.
Various unnecessary DOM elements and style rules were removed, but the
overall list looks identical to how it looked before.
Add alert suggesting that the user switch to a connected account. This
alert is displayed when the popup is opened over an active tab that is
connected to some account, but not the current selected account. The
user can choose to switch to a connected account, or dismiss the alert.
This alert is only shown once per account switch. So if the user
repeatedly opens the popup on a dapp without switching accounts, it'll
only be shown the first time. The alert also won't be shown if the user
has just dismissed an "Unconnected account" alert on this same dapp
and account, as that would be redundant.
The alert has a "Don't show me this again" checkbox that allows the
user to disable the alert. It can be re-enabled again on the Alerts
settings page.
The unconnected account alert can now be disabled. A "don't show this
again" checkbox has been added to the alert, which prevents that alert
from being shown in the future.
An alert settings page has been added to the settings as well. This
page allows the user to disable or enable any alert.
This controller was not used. It was used by the
`ComputedBalancesController`, which was removed in #7057 (as it was
also unused).
The pending balances calculator was only used by the balances
controller.
A race condition exists where after adding an unapproved transaction,
it could be mutated and then replaced when the default gas parameters
are set. This happens because the transaction is added to state and
broadcast before the default gas parameters are set, because
calculating the default gas parameters to use takes some time.
Once they've been calculated, the false assumption was made that the
transaction hadn't changed.
The method responsible for setting the default gas now retrieves an
up-to-date copy of `txMeta`, and conditionally sets the defaults only
if they haven't yet been set.
This race condition was introduced in #2962, though that PR also added
a loading screen that avoided this issue by preventing the user from
interacting with the transaction until after the gas had been
estimated. Unfortunately this loading screen was not carried forward to
the new UI.
* Remove `estimatedGas` property from `txMeta`
The `estimatedGas` property was a cache of the gas value estimated for
a transaction when the default gas limit was set. This property wasn't
used anywhere. It may have been useful for debugging purposes, but the
same gas estimate is already stored on the `history` property so it
should be present in state logs regardless.
* Remove `gasLimitSpecified` txMeta property
The `gasLimitSpecified` property of `txMeta` wasn't used for anything.
It might have been useful for debugging purposes, but whether or not
the gas limit was specified can also be determined from looking at the
transaction history, so it's not a huge loss.
* Remove `gasPriceSpecified` txMeta property
The `gasPriceSpecified` property of `txMeta` wasn't used for anything.

* Remove `simpleSend` txMeta property
The `simpleSend` property of `txMeta` was used to ensure a buffer was
not added to the gas limit during gas estimation for simple send
transactions. It was made redundant by #8484, which accomplishes this
without the use of this property.
Previously a transaction would get assigned a default value during the
`addTxGasDefaults` function, after the transaction was added and sent
to the UI.
Instead the transaction is assigned a default value before it gets
added. This flow is simpler to follow, and it avoids the race condition
where the transaction is assigned a value from the UI before this
default is set. In that situation, the UI-assigned value would be
overridden, which is obviously not desired.
